DAR ES SALAAM， Dec。 2 （Xinhua） —— A heavy downpour coupled by strong winds have injured eight people and destroyed 133 houses in Tanzania‘s southern district of Namtumbo in Ruvuma region， an official said on Thursday。
Julius Ningu， the Namtumbo district commissioner， said the rains and strong winds that lasted for 45 minutes on Wednesday evening in Likuyusekamaganga village also dismantled roofs of three classrooms of a primary school
“Several old trees were also brought down by the strong winds，” Ningu told Xinhua in a telephone interview。
“Six of the injured villagers were treated at a health center and discharged while two of the victims were referred to Namtumbo district hospital for further treatment，” said the official。
He said villagers whose houses were damaged by the rains and strong winds have been accommodated by their relatives while others were staying in their other houses。
Ningu， who inspected the affected village， said quantity surveyors and civil engineers were assessing to establish the extent of the damage caused by the rains。 Enditem
